Review on Music Xray
Recently, I stumbled across this website called musicxray.com which claims that you can get paid for listening to music. I am an online opportunity seeker, so things like this caught my attention immediately. I’ve signed up and tried it myself. I thought it would be good to share my personal experience with all of you, thus, I have decided to write a review on this,
On a side note: This review was written on the 1st April of 2016. So for those of you wondering whether this site still works in 2016, please read on.
And ya… this is NOT an APRIL FOOLS joke so do take the review seriously! 😆
Name: Music Xray
Owner: Mike McCready
Price: $0, Free to Join
Verdict: Not Recommended
What is Music Xray all about?
How Music Xray works is very simple: Basically, this is a platform for new musicians or bands to showcase their talent in music and try to get their songs to reach as many people as possible and create themselves a fan base.
In order for fans(you and me) to listen to their songs and give feedback, these musicians must spend a certain amount of money(depending on their budget) to promote their music. In other words, these musicians will be the ones paying us money, usually $0.10, as a token of appreciation for giving them feedback.
Ok, now I will do a quick walkthrough on how the entire process works, from the registration all the way to the point where you start earning money.
Step #1: Selecting your Account Type
As you can see from the above image, there are three different account options for you. Since we are trying to make money here by listening to new music, you have to select the “Fan Account” option. Do take note that if you select the wrong account, you will not be able to go back and change it. The only way for you is to create a new account with a different email address.
Step 2: Get Access to your Facebook Account
Music Xray will want to get access to your Facebook account. Basically, they want information like your name, birthdate, friend list and etc. Honestly, I don’t see why they require you to do so because it seems redundant to me. Probably Music Xray has some other motive in mind. Anyway, you will be required to complete this step before you can move on to the next part.
Step 3: Select Favourite Genre & Music Bands
In this step, you will be required to select your top 5 favourite genres and include your top 10 favourite music bands. This is necessary because the information that you provide now will be used to determine the type of songs that will be sent to you via your email.
If you deliberately leave out this part, you can expect not to be getting any songs to review at all. So I recommend you to fill up all the blanks.
Quick tip: Even though you only have a few band names in mind, I still suggest you try to find out other band names and include too. Do a quick Google search on different bands and include them in. Your main motive here is to listen to as many songs as possible and make money so I don’t think you should really be bothered whether it’s not your favourite band.
Step 4: Wait, Listen & Get Paid
This is the boring part!
You will not be instantly given songs to listen and review. Like I mentioned earlier, you will receive songs(based on your earlier preferences) through email. You can expect to get around $0.10 for every song you listen. Payment can be done through PayPal but you need to reach a minimum payout limit of $20 first.
Important Info*: There may be times that you might not get paid for listening to a song. Read this below which was quoted from an email they sent me.
” We use an over-booking system when we send you a song. that is, we will only pay a certain number of potential fans to hear a song. The number of people we can pay depends on the number of potential fans a musician asks us to target on their behalf. We always alert more people that can be paid for their time, so attending to your songs as quickly as possible after you receive an email alert will ensure you always get paid. If you are late, you can still hear the song and support the musicians but will not be paid for your listening. So please be quick as possible”.
My Personal Experience
So… like I said earlier, I have tried it and want to share my experience with you.
This is how the story goes…
I’ve been a member of Music Xray for slightly over two months now. Over this period, the total amount of money that I have made is around $3. I only got a couple of music to listen to every month. This is actually worst than what I initially thought. I expected to, at least, get 2 or 3 music to listen every week, but it doesn’t seem to be that case.
Funny enough I have seen some reviews on Google and YouTube mentioning about making over $10 per day and some worst still talked about making $12 per hour. All these reviews are fake and are only trying to promote the website with their Affiliate ID so that they can earn some sort of commission for referring people.
If you had expectations like that, it’s time you lower your expectations if not you are only going to get disappointed once you try out yourself. Honestly, I came with the expectation to at least make $100 per month. Unfortunately, I am far from that.
In this rate, it is going to take me more than a year to reach the cashout limit of $20.
For those of you who like earning pennies, then this opportunity is suitable for you. If you are someone looking to make a decent income online, this isn’t the website for you.
Personally, I won’t be focusing too much on this from now on because I feel that this is a total waste of my time. I rather be spending more time on my core business online, promoting someone else’s product.
Having said that, I still will be listening to some new songs and trying to earn some extra money from this whenever I get the opportunity. I don’t want to be leaving any money on the table. Just that, this isn’t my main priority.
Update 5/4/2016 – Just want to do a quick update here on my personal experience. Recently I have been encountering issues with music Xray. Every time they send me an email on new music, I am unable to view them.
Take a look at this,
The above is a snippet of the email I always receive from music Xray telling me that there is a new song which has matched my preferences.
So after I click the link and sign in, I’m always getting this message over and over again. “Currently, there are no more songs for you to listen to. Please check back again some time in the near future”.
Seriously, if there is really no songs available then why am I getting notifications on my email regarding new songs available.
Anyway, like I said, I am not going to be focusing or worrying too much on this. The reason why I did this is to give you a heads up on what’s going on.
My Final thoughts.
Music Xray is definitely not a scam. But I am not going to recommend you this opportunity because there is not much money to be made here. Instead of wasting time here, I suggest that you should consider starting an online business. There is a great potential of money to be made there.
The best part of creating an online business is you can build one based on your very own passion and the start up cost is significantly low compared to an offline business.
So think about it. Do you want to be serious about building an income online that can totally change your life in the next couple of years or do you want to just make money for a pass time and live the same old life years from now?
This is your call. I will leave it totally up you.
